Williston-Immanuel United Church is an "emerging faith community" that continues to grow out of the collaborative energies of two active and strong Portland, Maine congregations. Both Williston-West Church (United Church of Christ) and Immanuel Baptist Church (American Baptist Churches in the USA) continue the important relationship each has enjoyed with its denominational associations both regionally and nationally. (The UCC mission center is in Cleveland, Ohio and the ABC/USA mission center is in Valley Forge, PA.)
Now, participants in the new life of Williston-Immanuel share their denominational identity with each other as well as their organizational unity with the larger gatherings of Christians who espouse similar goals and purposes. Together they continue active support of ecumenical ministries such as the Maine Council of Churches, whom each congregation supported prior to their becoming a single church and whose administrative offices happen to be located in the Williston-Immanuel building at 156 High Street in Portland.
IMPORTANT LINKS
The icons below will link you with a few of the many structures with whom Williston-Immanuel United continues to be conscientiously related and actively involved. Some of them focus on denominational concerns; some on ecumenical efforts; and some on commitments to important, social ministries which the new congregation pledges not to ignore. Some of them provide resources for ministering to and among one another, as any concerned family would do. It should be no surprise that a new church would also commit to doing so.
